An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual crimes against two boys both between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.

She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

Mrs Prior KC added: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild notified the authorities about his suspicions.

She said the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the police again.

She explained the man then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
