19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first trophy since the Rome competition and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five games to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent rescued four early-game break points in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
